There seems to be no respite for rail travellers as operational constraints coupled with adverse weather conditions prevailing in the region are casting their shadow on rail traffic, which remains erratic.

Railways officials said five trains were cancelled for the day, two were rescheduled, while a dozen odd long-route trains were running late by one to seven hours.

The railways said the 12715 Nanded-Amritsar Sachkhand Express, 13005 Howrah-Amritsar Mail, 14673 Jaynanagr-Amritsar Shaheed Express, 15209 Saharsa-Amritsar Jansewa Express and 15210 Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express were cancelled today, while 14650 Amritsar-Jaynagar Saryu-Yamun Express and 18238 Amritsar-Bilaspur Chhattisgarh Express were rescheduled for late departure by 2.05 hours and 2.20 hours, respectively.

Sources in the Northern Railway divisional headquarters at Ferozepur indicated that with the weather conditions expected to take a turn for the worse in the days to come, the chances of improvement in the erratic run of trains were remote, if any.

“Some more trains might have to be cancelled and others running behind schedule due to speed restrictions owing to fog and bad weather in the immediate future,” sources said.

Unlike many other long-route trains which were running behind schedule, the rail traffic to and from Delhi was relatively better as most trains on this section were operating almost on time.
