75 liquor boxes seized, 3 held

The Doraha police arrested three persons and seized 75 boxes of illicit liquor in two separate cases here today.

NS Mahal, SSP, Khanna, said at a press conference that a police party had established a checkpoint (naka) in front of Rajwant Hospital, Doraha, today afternoon where a Mahindra tempo was signalled to stop. As many as 50 liquor boxes, including 24 of English and 26 of desi alcohol, were seized and two vehicle occupants, identified as Gurcharan Singh of Azad Nagar, Ludhiana, and Arwinder Singh of Ludhiana, were arrested. The SSP said a case under the Excise Act was registered against the accused.

In the second such case, the Khanna police seized 25 liquor boxes. A checkpoint was established near a Markfed godown in Khanna where the recovery was made from an Indigo car. The car driver, identified as Puneet Kumar, a resident of Khanna, has been arrested.

The SSP said the Khanna Police had registered a case under the Excise Act. Further investigation is underway, he added. — OC
