Khanna April 25

Unhappy with a shortage of gunny bags (bardana), a number of commission agents of the Samrala grain market staged a protest against Markfed officials here on Wednesday. They also blocked the Samrala-Bija road during the protest.

The protesters led by Harpal Singh Dhillon, president, Commission Agents’ Association, alleged that officials of Markfed were harassing commission agents while proving them with sacks. They accused the officials of taking bribe for releasing gunny bags.

Due to the road blockage, a number of vehicles were stuck in a traffic jam. Keeping in view the protest, the Samrala Police had made alternative routes for traffic.

Harsimrat Singh Shetra, DSP, Samrala, reached the spot and persuaded Marked officials to give gunny bags to the commission agents. They lifted the protest after they got gunny bags. — OC
