City-based actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla is also encouraging residents to celebrate Green Diwali.

While speaking on celebrating Diwali, he said, “Artistes and public figures have a larger responsibility. They need to work for social awakening on issues and causes that are important.”

“Pollution has become a bane for society. Everyone must shun crackers and celebrate Green Diwali,” he added.

He said, “Crackers worth lakhs are burnt on Diwali every year, which not only causes pollution, but also leads to serious injuries. Even precious lives are lost due to negligence during the festival of lights.”

“Good and clean environment is an invaluable gift, but it is being polluted. People can contribute in improving the greenery of the precious environment if everyone plants a tree instead of burning crackers,” he said.

He said, “There are many ways to celebrate Diwali than to celebrate it with crackers.” The actor has also posted a message of Green Diwali on the social media as well.

“What needs to be burnt instead of crackers is the weakness of mind and thoughts that prevent us from moving in the right direction and taking right steps,” he added.

While appealing to people Bhalla said, “Now, the right step will be that every household in the city celebrates Green Diwali and helps in preseving environment.”
