Ludhiana: Lok Insaaf Party Chief, MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, the Ludhiana girl who had accused Ferozepur DSP of pushing her into drugs, and party workers conducted a protest march against drug peddling at Talwandi village, near Ladhowal, in Ludhiana on Sunday. Bains alleged that many persons in this village were allegedly involved in drug peddling, but the police have failed to take action against them. During the protest rally, LIP workers raised slogans against the Punjab Government and the Punjab Police as well. Bains said they warned peddlers to stop selling drugs, otherwise they would be exposed. Bains said: “I have received complaints that drug peddlers at this village are active but the police are doing nothing. A drug addict was recently arrested, but the police had not taken action against the woman, who supplied drugs to him. It means the police are backing drug peddlers.” “Under the ‘Nashe Khilaaf Punjab’ drive, we will conduct campaigns in various parts of the state. Some people thrashed a drug peddler at Bathinda yesterday. It is the sign of a civil war like situation due to the failure of the state government, who has failed to act against the menace. A large number of people are coming forward to support the movement against drugs,” he said. Manjit Singh Lovely, a villager, who is also the member of DAPO team against drugs, said: “Many people are involved in the peddling of drugs. The Bet area near Sutlej River is very much affected due to drugs. There is a need to take concrete measures to end drug menace.” — TNS
