Ludhiana, March 5
The Bhatta Mazdoor Union today held a rally at Chatar Singh Park highlighting the problems being faced by workers these days. Under the leadership of the Lal Jhanda Mazdoor Union, the Bhatta Mazdoor Union held the rally to "wake-up" the authorities to come to the rescue of those working in brick-kilns.
Supporting the labourers working in brick-kilns, Tarsem Jodhan, general secretary of the Bhatta Mazdoor Union, said they were passing through rough phase when kilns were run just for about four-five months while earlier, there were wages for over nine months as kilns were run continuously.
"The government had made tall claims before coming to power (both the state and Centre), but nothing was done practically and brick-kiln workers had to remain without work for many months. The government should increase their wages in addition to providing first-aid, potable water and other facilities," said Jodhan adding that the unemployment was increasing day by day, but the government was not paying any attention towards the plight of workers (mazdoor).
