15 more gastro cases reported

Ludhiana: Fifteen cases of gastroenteritis were reported from Bharti Colony, Geeta Colony and Aman Colony in Ward Number 1 on Thursday. No new patient was admitted to the hospital. A health team visited Ward Number 2 after complaints of contaminated water. However, no case of gastro was detected in this ward. “The situation is under control,” said Dr Ramesh, District Epidemiologist. TNS

Mobiles recovered at Central Jail

Ludhiana: The police recovered two mobile phones allegedly from two inmates at Central Jail here. A case under the Prison Act 1894 has been registered  against Pankaj Rajpoot and Gagandeep Singh. TNS 

90 cartons of illicit liquor recovered

Samrala: The police claimed to have arrested a person with 90 cartons of illicit liquor at a naka near the Neelon bridge. While Mandip Singh of Jalandhar was arrested, vehicle driver Mana, also from Jalandhar, escaped. OC

Travel agent Ghai faces fresh FIR

Ludhiana: A fresh FIR was registered against Nitish Ghai, a travel agent and owner of an immigration firm. He has been booked along with his brother Munish Ghai by the city police for duping a resident of several lakhs on the pretext of sending her abroad. Complainant Lakhwinder Kaur, a resident of Raikot, told the police that the accused had promised to send her to Canada. He had taken Rs 3.50 lakh in advance, but failed to arrange any visa, she added. The inquiry of the complaint was conducted by the ACP (East) following which fraud case was registered against Nitish Ghai, his brother Munish Ghai and Preeti. The total count of FIRs against Ghai has risen to 27 with the registration of a fresh case. So far, the city police have failed to nab the accused. ADCP Surendra Lamba said list of properties owned by the agent was being prepared, which would be attached with cases. TNS

One held with 600-gm opium

Ludhiana: The city police has nabbed a peddler and recovered 600 gram of opium from his possession. The accused has been identified as Puladpur, a resident of the Focal Point. Police officials said during routine patrolling near Sherpur Chowk, a pedestrian was stopped for checking on suspicion. During search of his belongings narcotics was recovered. TNS

Four snatchers arrested

Ludhiana: The city police has nabbed four snatchers and recovered nine mobile phones from their possession. Two vehicles, including motorcycle and scooter, were also recovered from them. The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar, Mandeep Singh, alias Monu, and Harpreet Singh, alias Lucky, all from Subash Nagar, besides Vinod Kumr, alias Tittu, from Prem Vihar. ADCP Rajvir Singh said the Tibba police station had received a tip-of about the snatchers. The accused were arrested by the police at a naka in Gopal Nagar, he said. The accused were also involved in some theft incidents and further probe was on to recover stolen and looted valuables, he added. “We will take the accused on police remand and their further interrogation may solve several past snatching and theft cases,” the ADCP said. Son falsely implicated: Woman

Ludhiana: Maya Devi, a resident of Rahon Road, Basti Jodhewal, has alleged that the city police indicted her son wrongly in a murder case. She alleged that now police officials were demanding bribe from her to settle the case. She said a complaint was also submitted to the Police Commissioner and other senior police officials of the city, but no action was taken against anyone. She said on February 9, 2017, the police had registered a murder case against three persons, including Sandeep Singh, alias Deep, a resident of Rahon Road, Simran Singh, alias Sonu, a resident of Meharban, and Happy, a resident of Seera village, at the Meharban police station. They were booked on the charge of killing Harvinder Singh, alias Deepi. “My son Simran was not involved in any murder case. Rather he was admitted to Drug Counselling and Rehabilitation Centre, Makhu, for treatment because he was an addict,” said Maya Devi. “When the victim was murdered, my son was admitted in the centre, but the police indicted him in a wrong case. We have also submitted proof of his admission in drug de-addiction centre in Ludhiana courts,” she alleged. TNS
