Budding cricketers from city to tour South Africa

LUDHIANA: A 10-member contingent of budding cricketers belonging to different schools of Ludhiana city will undertake a tour to South Africa from May 25 to June 5.

A 10-member contingent of budding cricketers belonging to different schools of Ludhiana city will undertake a tour to South Africa from May 25 to June 5.

Aseem Kakkar, who will accompany the players during the forthcoming tour, said boys would attend an advanced training programme at Johannesburg in South Africa, which would help them to improve their skills. Kakkar said these players had been selected during the trials under the supervision of experts Sudhir Tyagi and Anuj Sharma. Prior to the final selection, these players attended two coaching camps in Ludhiana and one in Delhi.

The selected players include two students from BCM Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar branch, one from Green Land School, Dugri, and seven players from GMT International School. Four of them are batsmen, while two are off-spinners and the rest are medium pace bowlers.

“Coaches with four and five levels of experience would impart training to players. Besides me, two other coaches Suresh Kumar and Sudhir Tyagi would be part of the team,” Kakkar said.

Meanwhile, students of GMT International School, members of the touring squad were given a warm send-off today. Director of the school Kashmir Singh Thind and Principal Ritu Sharma wished students safe journey and a useful training stint overseas.
