It was a real show of solidarity when more than 500 local residents joined the candle march protest seeking immediate and befitting punishment for the perpetrators of Kathua and Unnao rape and murder.

Men, women and children, holding candles and blank placards, marched through the streets of Doraha, starting from Beant Singh Chowk towards the railway station to protest against the politicisation and communalisation of the sexual violence.

President, Doraha Citizen Welfare Society, Arun Bector, expressing his resentment over the recent two incidences of Unnao and Kathua said, “The whole of the country should bow its head in shame if we as its citizens cannot raise our voice against the horrifying and barbaric acts on the part of those who are shameless and have thrown all scruples to winds long back. It is a disgrace to the nation if the females are exploited, tormented and harassed by anyone at any time.”

“Rape and murder of two girls in a democratic country is very shameful. It is our moral duty at this time to stand by the family and demand justice for the victim. In fact, we as Indians and above all as humans should be thoughtful enough to join together and seek justice for the victim and her family. Such incidents if overlooked will only lead to disastrous situations,” shared Pawan Kumar Kaushal, secretary, MCPI(U) Punjab.
