Central officials inspect Khanna grain market

The secretary, Food and Civil Supply Department, Central government, Ravi Kant (IAS), along with the state secretary, Food and Civil Supply, KAP Sinha, and Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, Pradeep Kumar Aggrawal, visited Asia’s biggest grain market to inspect the purchase of wheat here on Thursday.

“The purchase is going on smoothly all over the state and the payment is also upto the mark,” said Ravi Kant. There was some problem of lifting, but it would be solved in the next two-three days, he added.

He, however, said the lifting issue had cropped up due to glut of wheat in the market, but it would be cleared soon. He assured payment to farmers within 48 hours and commission to commission agents soon. The Khanna SDM, Sandeep Singh, and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion.
