Wheat cultivators of the area are worried due to changing weather conditions as the procurement and lifting of the crop is yet to pick up at the local grain market and at the centres of the region falling under Ludhiana and Sangrur districts.
Farmers led by All India Kissan Sabha general secretary Baldev Latala have urged the higher authorities to impress upon officials of various food procurement agencies to expedite the process for procurement and lifting of the wheat crop being brought in mandis of the region.
Office-bearers and activists of various wings of the Congress, led by MLA Surjit Singh Dhiman, and Municipal Council (MC) president Suraaj Mohammad visited various purchase centres at Kanganwal, Kup and Begowal, besides the local grain market, for hearing and redressal of problems faced by farmers.
Having advised officials of various food procurement agencies to ensure smooth functioning at all mandis during the procurement season, Dhiman asked his personal assistant Teji Kamalpur and the MC president to monitor the process in following weeks.
The MLA asked farmers to bring all problems in the notice of Teji Kamalpur and Suraaj Mohammad, who would get their issues resolved.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion Dhiman’s personal assistant Teji Kamalpur said, “Although the Punjab government’s Cabinet expansion will take place on Saturday, yet Dhiman’s name does not figure in the list. It proves that the BC community of the state has been neglected. It will affect any upcoming elections in the state.”
