City gears up for R-Day

An Army ‘Mass Band Display’, along with several cultural items by the schoolchildren, will be a special attraction during the Republic Day function at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Friday. 

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal after holding a review meeting with officials of various government departments regarding the Republic Day celebration at the stadium. 

He said various creative items would be displayed by the Army Mass Band for 10-12 minutes. He said Republic Day would be celebrated with fervour and gaiety in the district. The Deputy Commissioner said various contingents of the Punjab Police and the NCC would participate in the march past during the function. Apart from cultural items, a PT show would also be presented. As many as 2,000 students would participate in the function. Final rehearsal would be held on January 24.

 The Deputy Commissioner said the requisite arrangements would be made for traffic diversion, parking of vehicles, security arrangements and other facilities during the function. 

He directed the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to ensure proper cleanliness around the function venue. The Health Department was asked to depute medical teams and a permanent ambulance to facilitate people during the event. The DC also asked the PSPCL to ensure the uninterrupted power supply during the function.

Preparations in full swing in Ahmedgarh

Three women administrators will hoist the national flag during the events at Raikot, Payal and Ahmedgarh. The trio has already accelerated the efforts to motivate rank and file in all departments to contribute actively to make celebrations a success. 

Besides convening meetings of heads and officials of various government departments, autonomous bodies and educational institutes, the sub-divisional magistrates of the regions have roped in office-bearers and activists of various social, constitutional and religious organisations for making the celebrations a grand success. 

Recapitulation of pre-independence and post-independence events through elocution, poetry; felicitating freedom fighters and farmers for not burning paddy stubble; and the recognition of outstanding performers in various fields are among items on the agenda of the SDMs. 

Ahmedgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate Preety Yadav, who is supposed to unfurl the flag at Jandali village, said: “The national festival holds special importance as it is being celebrated to express gratitude towards those who paved the foundation of our democracy,” said Yadav.  Schedule drafted by Payal SDM Swati Tiwana includes motivating office-bearers and activists of various social organisations, constitutional bodies and civic bodies to help the administration implement the government policies in letter and spirit. Tricolor will be hoisted at the Raikot Grain Market by SDM Kannu Thind on Republic Day. K
