A city-based judoka, Jaswinder Singh, has overcome ligament injury and bounced back to find his place in the Indian contingent for the 18th edition of the Asian Games. The event will begin on August 18 at Jakarta in Indonesia.

Jaswinder Singh is currently employed as a Head Constable with the Punjab Police. He suffered a muscle injury during the preparatory camp for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games-2014 that forced him to rethink about his sports career. He was out of action for three years.

However, Jaswinder showed exemplary courage and determination as after undergoing surgery, he resumed the game with more zeal to prove his mettle. He participated in Senior Asian Judo Championship held at Kuwait last year and secured the seventh position.

Jaswinder then participated in Senior National Judo Championship held in February this year at Jammu where he clinched silver medal in the 100+ kg weight category. He was also invited to attend a camp at Rohtak for the upcoming Asian Games. He will attend another camp to be held at Bhopal prior to the Asian Games. The Indian judo team might also undertake a tour abroad in run up to the Asian Games.

Jaswinder Singh, a three-time All India Inter-Varsity Tournaments champion, was recruited in the Punjab Police on the basis of his achievements.
