Ludhiana, June 18
The Municipal Corporation conducted a drive against illegal constructions across the city on Monday. It was learnt that the MC took action against around 30 illegal constructions.
Assistant Town Planner (ATP), Zone B, Kuljit Singh Mangat said they took action against eight buildings which were constructed in a no construction zone near the garbage dump, Tibba Road. He said three buildings were demolished while five were sealed.
Mohan Singh, ATP of Zone A, said an illegal colony located near Jalandhar Bypass was demolished. Two houses under construction, sewer lines and roads were razed, he said.
Besides, 10 illegal constructions were demolished on Bahadur Ke Road and Jaswant Nagar in Zone A. Two buildings each at Chaura Bazar and Field Ganj were sealed, he added.
Assistant Town Planner (Headquarters) SS Bindra said 10 illegal shops were demolished at Ghumar Mandi. He said the drive was on against illegal constructions in the city.
The MC had earlier served show-cause notices on three officials. After Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu suspended eight Jalandhar MC officials, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu conducted a survey of illegal buildings in the city. Sidhu has stated that he would conduct a surprise check in the city soon.
