The unsanitary conditions and choked sewers at the Govind Puri Mohalla and the adjoining areas, near Durga Mata Mandir, on Bahadur Ke Road, have made lives of residents miserable.

The people living at street No. 1 in Govind Puri have been complaining of choked sewers and water accumulation for the last five days but to no avail. They said sewer in the area got blocked after every two to three months as manholes were not cleaned on time. They demanded that the Municipal Corporation (MC) should find a permanent solution to the problem as soon as possible.

Besides, dumping of garbage on vacant plots has also become a nuisance for residents. They want that the authorities should take requisite action against the people disposing of garbage in plots.

“It is difficult to stay here as smell emanates from stagnant water. The sewer has been overflowing in our street for five days, but there is no relief from unhygienic conditions. The MC staff came to clean the sewer, but it continues to overflow,” said an area resident Inderjeet Singh.

“We suffer due to sewer, which gets choked after every two to three months. I appeal to the authorities concerned to ensure timely cleaning of manholes,” he added.

“The civic body should pay more attention to ensure cleanliness in the area. It is difficult to pass through the street due to overflowing sewer. The MC must take notice to redress such problems faced by us,” said Vimal Kumar, another resident.

The executive engineer of the MC, Pardeep Saluja, said, “The problem of choked sewer at Govind Puri will be redressed at the earliest.”
