Ludhiana, August 8

The court of Sumit Sabharwal, Judicial Magistrate, issued arrest warrant against the clerk of Oriental Insurance, Clock Tower branch, after the latter did not appear for hearing.

The clerk identified as Jasvir Singh, who was attending the court hearing in connection of a defamation case, failed to appear before the court on various hearings following which the court issued the arrest warrant.

The complainant, Rakesh Satija, development officer in United India Insurance Company, said, “My wife Sakshi Satija had met with an accident on April 8, 2012.”

“She underwent treatment and when I filed the insurance claim to the Oriental Insurance, the latter denied the claim stating that I was trying to gain undue monetary advantage from the treatment cost of the accident that never occurred. Various other allegations were also levelled against me,” the complainant added.

Satija contested with the insurance company and the latter released around Rs 25,000 of the treatment cost.

“However, they refused to withdraw their allegations following which I filed a defamation case against RS Bahlan, the then branch manager and investigator Nirvair Singh,” Satija said.

Jasvir Singh was deputed by the company to appear for the trail. However, Jasvir Singh did not appear for the court hearing on several occasions following which the court issued the arrest warrant.

Satija said today, he handed over the arrest warrant to Kotwali SHO Sumit Sood. The investigating officer said efforts were on for the compliance of the court order.
