Ludhiana: A one-day free check up camp for neuropsychiatric diseases was organised by Dr Anshul Mahajan, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist of Manas Clinic at Luxmi Narayan Temple, Deep Nagar.

Ludhiana: A one-day free check up camp for neuropsychiatric diseases was organised by Dr Anshul Mahajan, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist of Manas Clinic at Luxmi Narayan Temple, Deep Nagar. About 150 patients were examined during the camp. Free medicines were also given to patients. Dr Anshul also educated the patients about the nature and cause of various neuropsychiatric illnesses such as sleep disorders, migraine, headache, epilepsy, dementia, parkinsonism, movement disorders, neuropathic pains, and neuro-developmental diseases of children like autism, mental retardation and cerebral palsy. He described how disabilities from these neuropsychiatric illnesses cause psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, sleeplessness and psychosis. He stressed the correct diagnosis, regular treatment compliance and psychosocial rehabilitation of these patients.

Importance of preventive health check-ups

A talk was delivered on Monday at BCM School, Shastri Nagar, by Dr Rohit Tandon, who heads Preventive Health Check-Up Unit and Echocardiography Department at Hero Dayanand Medical College and Heart Institute. In his lecture, Dr Rohit Tandon said each year, millions of people die because of not following the preventive and precautionary health measures. With human life getting much affected by present day stress, intake of junk food and more sedentary lifestyle, it has become important for every individual to go for preventive health checkups at regular intervals. According to Dr Tandon, preventive health checkups are useful in early detection of all types of illnesses and risk factors. — TNS
