With the nip in the air, the cases of dengue and chikungunya have subsided a little giving much relief to city residents.

According to experts, the breeding of mosquitoes will stop when the maximum temperature will go

below 20 degree.

District epidemiologist Dr Ramesh said there was definitely a fall in the dengue cases reported from the city.

“The cases reported have seen a downfall due to dip in the temperature. Lower temperatures will stop the breeding of the mosquitoes,” said Dr Ramesh.

He said it was expected that by the end of this month, the cases of dengue and chikungunya would see a drop.

Dr Gurmeet Singh, a medicine specialist, said nature would now play its role and help in subsiding the breeding of mosquitoes and, hence, the cases would also fall.

“From the last few days, I have seen that the number of patients coming have come down. Hopefully, with further dip in the temperature, the cases will come down,” he added.

Balbir Kaur, who had chikungunya last month, said she was still suffering from its aftermath and had not recovered completely. “I still have joint pains and do not want anybody to go through this. I am relieved that the temperature is going low and so will these diseases,” she said.

Dr Ramesh said though fewer cases were reported, the city residents should still be cautious and should not allow water to get stagnant near their homes.

“Prevention is always better than cure so it is better that stagnant water from pots, old tyres and near junk is cleared,” he added.
