Ludhiana, April 26

The Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate, Ludhiana, today launched a mobile GST Migration Seva Centre to facilitate the Central Excise and Service Tax assessees in migration to GST portal.

Dr Hardeep Singh, Additional Commissioner, Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate, flagged off the mobile cars equipped with all facilities for spreading awareness among traders and for doing migration on spot. Lakshay Kumar Gupta, DC (Preventive), Neeraj Soi, DC (Technical) and Dr Parampreet Rai, AC (Division II) were also present.

Meanwhile, the Central Excise and Service Tax Department organised a special meeting with tax professionals and various trade associations on the topic “Migration to GST”.

The meeting was held under the presidentship of Naresh Penumaka, Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax.

He said as GST was going to be implemented from July 1, the process of GST enrolment had been started. To get GSTIN (Goods & Services Tax Identification Number), it was mandatory for the service tax assessees to migrate to www.gst.gov.in before April 30 by using their provisional user ID and password which can be obtained by logging on to www.aces.gov.in.

If any taxpayer or tax professional has any problems or grievances regarding GST migration, he could contact the department’s concerned Deputy Commissioner for it.

Jatinder Kumar Khurana, state president, Indian Taxation Advocates Association, said the department should appoint nodal officers at local regions. The officials of the department answered various queries raised by the representatives of various associations. In this meeting, department’s Additional Commissioner JS Kahlon, Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Soi, Deputy Commissioner (Jalandhar) Parul Garg, Advocate Jatinder Khurana, Deputy Commissioner Lakshay Gupta and Assistant Commissioner (Jalandhar) Navdeep Jalota were also present.

In addition to this, the Delegation of Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO), under the chairmanship of Gurmeet Singh Kular, president of FICO, met Naresh Penumaka regarding the migration from Value Added Tax (Vat) to Goods and Service Tax (GST).

Penumaka said industrialists, traders and service providers who will not migrate from VAT/ Service Tax to GST cannot work from July 1 onwards. Neither can they claim Input Tax Credit nor will they be able to generate any bill from July 1.

There were mobile vans operational in the city to help people migrate to GST. They can either come to their respective Central Excise and Service Tax Office, or they can get themselves registered at mobile vans, he added.

Gurmeet Singh Kular said although the GST Act had been notified, there was no clarification on rates of taxes applicable. He requested Commissioner, Central Excise and Service Tax, to notify the rates of GST.
