Khanna: The police claimed to have arrested a youth and recovered a countrymade pistol and cartridge from his possession.



Khanna: The police claimed to have arrested a youth   and recovered a countrymade pistol and cartridge from his possession. The youth has been identified as Gurjant Singh, a resident of Sidhupur village, at present residing at Professor Colony, Lalheri road. Khanna SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said a patrol party spotted a youth  near Rahon village. They got suspicious about his presence there and searched him. They found a countrymade pistol and cartridge from his possession. A case has been registered against the youth. He is the son of a Sub-Inspector of the Punjab  Police posted in Patiala. He was disowned by his father due to his bad habits.  OC

Close shave for driver as truck ferrying batteries catches fire 

Samrala: A truck driver had a narrow escape when old batteries kept on the vehicle caught fire. The truck ferrying old batteries was going to Chandigarh from Ludhiana. When the truck reached near ITI, leaking acid from the batteries caught fire. After passersby raised the alarm, the driver of the truck, Deep Kumar of Jammu, pulled over the vehicle. The fire brigade was called and the fire was doused after a struggle of about half an hour.

Bag snatched

Ludhiana: The Division No. 3 police have booked an unidentified person for snatching. Sudarshan Kumari of Delhi said a man snatched her bag containing two gold rings, a pair of gold ear studs, Rs 4,850 cash, a mobile phone and other documents yesterday. The incident took place in the wee hours near Baba Than Singh Chowk. 

Man loses mobile 

A mobile phone was snatched from a man in Clock Tower area on Saturday. Bhagwan Gupta, a Gulchaman Gali resident, said he was talking over the phone, when an unidentified person snatched it from him and disappeared in the crowd. The Division No. 1 police have registered the case. TNS
