Man held with 2.3-kg opium

KHANNA: The Payal police have arrested one Nirmal Singh of Gharala village and recovered 2.3 kg of opium from him. DSP Payal Varinderjit Singh said they received a tip-off that Nirmal, who often used to visit other states with a combine harvester, was bringing opium with him.

The Payal police have arrested one Nirmal Singh of Gharala village and recovered 2.3 kg of opium from him. DSP Payal Varinderjit Singh said they received a tip-off that Nirmal, who often used to visit other states with a combine harvester, was bringing opium with him. He said a naka was laid near Jarg village on the Malerkotla-Khanna road, adding that the police spotted a Safari coming from Malerkotla side and when they signalled to stop the driver, he tried to flee but was caught after a chase. The accused was presented in the court, from where he was sent in police custody for three days. — OC
