The court of Additional Sessions Judge Jaspal Verma has convicted two persons on the charge of possessing huge quantity of poppy husk.

Accused Chamkaur Singh of Babarpur village, Malaud, was awarded rigorous imprisonment for 12 years with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

Whereas in another case, accused Harchand Singh of Babarpur village, was ordered to undergo imprisonment for 12 years with a fine of Rs 1lakh.

Pronouncing the verdict, the court held that the prosecution has successfully brought home the charges levelled against the accused persons.

Two cases under Section 15 of the NDPS Act were registered against the accused on August 5, 2015, at Maloud police station.

According to the prosecution, the accused were apprehended near the abandoned rice sheller’s wall in Madnipur village.

During the raid, poppy husk weighing 81 kg was recovered from Chamkaur Singh and 71 kg from co-accused Harchand Singh.
