A fire broke out at a cycle parts manufacturing factory on the Chandigarh road on Sunday. Goods worth several lakhs were destroyed by the fire. Several workers were present in the factory when the fire started. However, they ran to safety well in time.

Around 4.15 pm, a security guard noticed smoke billowing out of the first floor of the factory. He raised the alarm. He immediately called up the fire station. In a few minutes, fire engines reached there and firefighters started dousing the flames.

Sources said raw material and other packaging material was lying on the first floor which was destroyed by the fire. The machinery kept on the first floor was safe.

Fire officials said the factory workers’ attempt to douse the flames went in vain. More than 25 fire engines were pressed into service and it took the firefighters more than three hours to put out the fire.
