Four girl students of DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh (BRS) Nagar branch, represented Ludhiana district in the Punjab State Schools Cricket Championship (U-17) and played a major role for their side finishing as first runners-up.

Harshika Dhammi and Jessica Dua, both fast medium bowlers, along with Nivedita Ghai and Yashika Thapar, batswomen took part in this championship, organised by the Punjab Education Department at Hoshiarpur wherein Ludhiana district made history of sorts finishing among position holders for the first time.

Harshika and Jessica bowled brilliantly throughout the competition, picked up important wickets at crucial junctures at an economical run rate and paved the way for their side to reach the final. Jessica captured four wickets in the death overs while Harshika claimed three wickets which saw Ludhiana secure a berth in the final.

Besides, Nivedita and Yashika contributed with the bat and fashioned Ludhiana contingent qualify for the title clash.

Ludhiana girls started their campaign in style, wrapping up their opening match against Fatehgarh Sahib by 10 wickets. In the next match, city girls recorded an emphatic six-wicket victory over Barnala to advance into the next round.

In the third match, Ludhiana proved too good for the hosts, Hoshiarpur whom they overpowered comfortably by six wickets and stormed into the summit clash where they faced Faridkot.

In the final, Ludhiana, batting first, scored 96 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. However, the target turned out to be a meager one as Faridkot achieved it easily in the 18th over after losing just two wickets and Ludhiana had to content with the silver medal.

Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu, principal, DAV School, BRS Nagar branch, congratulated the girls for bringing fame to their school and wished them success in future tournaments. She also praised their coach Amandeep Singh for his valuable contribution in preparing the players.
