Deaf and dumb child treated

Fortis Hospital here gave a new lease of life to one-year-old Chakshit Bansal, who was deaf and dumb since birth. Dr Rajat Bhatia, after examining the child, decided to go for a cochlear implant surgery. The surgery was successful and the child is recovering well.

Talk on cardiac surgery

The Ludhiana Medical Practitioners Association (LMPA) organised a symposium where Dr Harinder Singh Bedi delivered a talk on ‘Cardiac Surgery in Diabetics’. Bedi talked about ‘Cardio- Vascular Detection and Prevention Initiative’. —TNS

Salon etiquette session

Ludhiana: A salon-etiquette session was held at Espace Salon in Radisson Blu Hotel here on Thursday. The resource person was fitness and image consultant Roopa Pahwa, Director, International School of Etiquette (ISOE). Around 23 children, along with their parents, attended the session. "Things such as not using your phone in a salon makes the attendants take you seriously," said Roopa Pahwa. She also apprised the participants of the etiquettes of talking with the salon staff. tns

Exporters’ meet held 

An exporters' meet was organised by the Bank of India, Ludhiana. The meeting was chaired by Raman Kumar Sharma, General Manager, Head Office (Mumbai). Other executives present were SM Bansal, Ludhiana Zonal Manager; SS Khera, Chandigarh Zonal Manager; Anil Jain, Amritsar Zonal Manager; and  Sanjay Sinha, Deputy Zonal Manager, Ludhiana. More than 40 exporters attended the meeting.  Sharma expressed his views on various types of export finance facilities extended by the bank for the exporter community and requested all exporters to take full advantage of the facilities. 26 employees found absent 

Ludhiana: As many as 26 employees were found absent, while three came late to their respective offices during surprise checks conducted in various offices here on Thursday.  Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Agarwal said adhering to the state government's directions, the checking is being conducted on a regular basis at several government offices in the district. He said as the visitors remain the sufferers due to the non-availability of the staff, through such surprise checks, things could improve. He said show-cause notices will be served to the erring staff/officials who remained absent from duty.

Bittu flays Chola Sahib incident

Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu suggested the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders to mend their ways. While condemning the incident that happened at a police station in Chohla Sahib (Tarn Taran) last night, in which the accused of murder case were forcibly freed by SAD protesters, Bittu said the hooliganism showed by the Akalis was condemnable and the guilty should not be spared at any cost. Bittu said the Union Government was running away from its responsibilities towards the states. The Centre Government should take necessary steps to control rising prices of fuel. He was at the Government College for Girls to attend a function on environment awareness. TNS
