Ludhiana, August 16

Five persons attacked the car of the director of a private hospital while he was going somewhere with a female employee of the hospital on August 12. The director was “kidnapped” and the car driven towards Doraha. There, the attackers snatched the mobile phones of the couple and fled the scene.

The Dugri police registered a case in this regard on August 14.

In his complaint to the police, Harmanpreet Singh (27), director of a private hospital, near Jawaddi Bridge, said on August 12 at around 9 pm, he, along with a woman employee, left the hospital for some official work. When they reached near the Dugri bridge, five persons attacked his car. They hurled a brick at the car which hit him after smashing the driver-side windowpane. He fell unconscious, said Harmanpreet.

The assailants snatched their mobile phones near Tibba Chowk and fled the scene. The SHO of Dugri, Inspector Dalbeer Singh, said a complainant approached the police on Tuesday, following which an FIR was registered under Section 365 (kidnapping), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the IPC against unidentified assailants.

The SHO said the matter had to be investigated thoroughly to know the assailants’ motive. Had the assailants wanted to rob the couple, they would have taken away the car too. But they just fled with their mobile phones.
