KCW GIRLS CLINCH TOP POSITIONS

Ludhiana: Students of Khalsa College for Women have achieved outstanding results in BCA (Ist semester) examinations, results of which were declared by Panjab University, Chandigarh. The top two university positions were bagged by college students. Nancy bagged first position in the university by scoring 88.6 per cent marks, Tarika Jain stood second in university by scoring 85.0 per cent marks. Nitika Jain clinched 7th position in the university and 5th position in the district by scoring 82.4 per cent marks, while Navdeep stood tenth in the district by securing 80.4 per cent marks. Topper of the college Nancy attributed her success to her hard work and punctuality. Besides, she remarked that efforts of her faculty members coupled with the blessings and support of her parents and the college Principal, Dr Mukti Gill have played an important role in her success.

CLEANLINESS DRIVE

Student Organisation of India (SOI), student wing of Shiromani Akali Dal started cleanliness drive at the SCD Government College. Director Youth Development Board and Zonal president of SOI Meetpal Singh Dugri informed that the students have sent photos of college bathroom and other places which were in urgent need of repair and cleaning. Taking a serious note of the complaint, SOI volunteers visited the college and started cleanliness drive with the help of students. Principal Dharam Singh also supported the drive and assured that they will get the bathrooms repaired.

NATIONAL WORKSHOP

A national workshop on ‘Emerging Trends in Information Technology in University Management’ concluded today at Desh Bhagat University. Eminent research scholars, teachers, IT experts and representatives of different universities from several parts of the country participated in the three-day long event. University Pro-Chancellor Tajinder Kaur inaugurated the events of final day. While speaking on the occasion, she said such kind of workshops bring multiple stake holders and experts on a common platform to exchange ideas and evolve solutions to the most pressing challenges confronting the university managements today.

Parteek Kalia (Associate Professor, Ludhiana Engineering College) and Dr Debasis Chowdhry (Controller of Examination, Sikkim University) shared their views on data security and its privacy. They also described the innovative IT methodologies being adopted by their respective institutions.

During the workshop, lectures were delivered by experts and PPT, oral and poster presentations were made by research scholars, teachers and IT experts. Dr Amrender Pani (Director, AIU) appreciated the talent of young research scholars and insisted that smart techniques, smart vision and smart ideas of youth can take the country to new heights in every field of life.

INTER-CLASS QUIZ

Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women

organised a fun-filled inter-class quiz contest.

Principal Dr Santa Bahl was the guest of honour, head of department of Commerce and Business Management. Seema Soni was the convener of the function. Students of advance diploma, certificate and diploma courses participated in the quiz. There were four teams and four rounds. Fun games were also played by the students.

SPORTS MEET

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women organised a two-day sports meet. The events of the first day include track and field events like 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 400m race, 800m race, 4X100m relay, 3,000m, long jump, shot put and discus throw. The events of the second day of the meet were open only to non-players. Fancy and fun events like three-legged race, potato and spoon race, chatti race and skipping were held and players of the college were not allowed to participate in these events to give a fair chance to the other students of the college. Jassjot Kaur (BA-III) won the title of the best athlete 2015-16 and Simranjeet Kaur (BA II) was adjudged as the second best athlete.
