The Department of Physical Education of Ramgarhia Girls College organised an extension lecture on the topic — mental health of women. Dr Priyanka Kalra, consultant psychiatrist, Deep Hospital delivered the lecture. Principal Inderjit Kaur accorded her a warm welcome. Dr Kalra shed light on the reproductive mental health of women. She averred that the problems faced by women during pregnancy usually go unnoticed and if appropriate treatment was not provided to them in time, they can adversely affect their mental wellbeing. Dr Inderjit Kaur said that the mental disorders that women suffer from generally get ignored in our society.

ART COMPETITION

Red Ribbon Club of BCM College of Education organised an art competition for the students of MEd and BEd. Themes of the competition were: AIDS, drug addiction, blood donation and problems of youth. Students prepared collage, posters and slogans. Principal Monika Sethi encouraged and motivated the students to use their creative skills for noble cause. She also congratulated the students and the members of the Red Ribbon Club for their support and encouragement for the success of this activity.

TALK ON MOTHER TONGUE

Hindi Department of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, celebrated relevance of mother tongue in studies and communication. The programme was conducted as per the directions of the UGC. Principal Mohinder Kaur Grewal encouraged the teachers and students to give importance to mother tongue. She said we always have better understanding in our mother tongue. “We people from Punjab can understand things easily in Punjabi and Hindi. So we should try to learn both languages thoroughly. No doubt English is an international language we must learn it but we should generally use our own language. Countries like China France, Germany and Russia do not use english but their own language in doing business with in country and internationally. 

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

Personality Development Workshop was organised at Gobindarh Public College, Alour, (Khanna), for the students of BA, BCA, BCom, BBA and PGDCA. Prof Gauri Singla from PIMT, Mandi Gobindgarh, was the resource person. Principal Neena Seth Pajni welcomed the resource person. Prof Singla motivated the students to develop learning and presentation skills. She also discussed the ways and means by which students could concentrate on their studies and succeed in achieving their goals. More than 150 students participated in this workshop.

EXTENSION LECTURE 

Post Graduate Department of Commerce, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, under the patronage of Gujranwala Khalsa Education Council (GKEC) and principal Dr Arwinder Singh Bhalla organised an extension lecture on ‘Careers in Commerce and Higher Education in Management’. Principal Dr Arwinder Singh Bhalla and Prof Paramjit Singh, HOD, Department of Commerce welcomed the guest of honour Dr Bikram Singh Virk, NJSA Government College, Kapurthala. Dr Bikram Singh Virk very well captured the theme of the topic by touching in detail various avenues of graduation and post graduation level of the commerce stream. He asserted his view points with surprising facts and figures. He not only highlighted different vistas available in commerce but how to enter these with different eligibility criterion.

SEMINAR ON STRESS MANAGEMENT 

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT) inaugurated PERSONA- A Club for Personality Development today. Dr BP Mishra, professor, Department of Psychiatry was the chief guest for the day. Director of the Institute Prof Manjit Singh Chhabra accorded a warm welcome to the guest and highlighted the need for a platform to transform the students into all-round personalities. He motivated the students to participate passionately in the club activities to enhance their personalities. The event began with the lamp lightning ceremony. Prof Ramandeep Kaur, assistant professor, Department of Computer Applications, gave the rationale for forming the club. Resource person Dr BP Mishra during his talk on stress management equipped the students with the right mind set to deal with stressful situations. He gave tips and tricks on how to cope up with stress. He informed the students that stress was useful in limited sense, beyond which it is detrimental for one’s physical and mental well-being and balance is the key word for life.

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION 

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, felicitated achievers on the annual prize distribution function held on the college campus. Dr Harshinder Kaur, deputy medical superintendent, Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, graced the occasion as chief guest. The function was attended by a large number of guests comprising former college principals, veteran academicians and members of the college governing body and parents of the students. Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman read the annual report of the college and highlighted the achievements of the students and the faculty in diverse fields.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT 

Desh Bhagat University organised an industrial visit for its MBA, BBA & BCom – Pre Final year students at Kitty Industries, Ludhiana. The objective of the visit was to make the students familiar with the current trends in the competitive world by sharing knowledge, ideas and skills with those of the people from the industry. Students and teachers visited Kitty Industries along with official team members where students were given brief information about various departments like grinding, baking and packing departments of the industry. The official team showed the production and packaging of breads to the students so that students are able to get inputs about production and packing process of breads.

They told students that Kitty Industries was one of the largest manufacturers of bread and Bakery products in Punjab. Students, while interacting  with officials,  asked relevant questions to clear their doubts and Kitty Industries team answered their queries. — TNS
