Ludhiana, February 19
Leading industrialists in the city it seems are taking a lead in venturing into the education sector.
The Hero Group, which includes Hero Motocorp — the world’s largest two wheeler manufacturer— in order to nurture future leaders and entrepreneurs in India, has now come up with BML Munjal University.
President of BML Munjal University, Akshay Munjal, who is the grandson of Brij Mohan Munjal, said BMU’s academic mentor was Imperial College, London — the 108 year old University that is ranked 2nd in the QS World University Rankings (2014).
Munjal said meeting academicians in Ludhiana was great as it was his hometown. “We are focusing on three major points — practical learning, training students for life and innovation. If students understand these points, they will never face failure,” Akshay said.
He said the industrial partnership was enabling a practical training experience for students, while international academic alliance by the university was providing exposure.
He said over 500 students have enrolled themselves (in less than a period of two years) in various courses in the university.
“BMU is designed around the 60-65 per cent theory-based learning and over 35 per cent of experiential learning,” he said.
Meanwhile, principals from various schools and colleges interacted with each other during the Principal Leadership Meet organised by the university today, where queries related to the problems being faced by educationists and students among others were discussed in detail. The panel discussion was held with dignitaries including Dr Prem Kumar, Dr Ashok Kapoor, Usha Anand and Rajiv Gupta among others.
