PAU signs MoU for seed production

LUDHIANA:The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, inked a pact with the VNR Seeds Private Limited, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, today for offering non-exclusive rights to the company to produce and sell the seed of PAU developed brinjal hybrid PBHR 42 and two pumpkin hybrids PPH 1 and PPH 2 within India.

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, inked a pact with the VNR Seeds Private Limited, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, today for offering non-exclusive rights to the company to produce and sell the seed of PAU developed brinjal hybrid PBHR 42 and two pumpkin hybrids PPH 1 and PPH 2 within India.

Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, was present at the MoU signing ceremony. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Research, PAU, and Vimal Chawda, Managing Director, VNR Seeds Private Limited.

 Dr Dhillon said, "The University is engaged in production and supply of breeder, foundation, certified and truthfully labelled seeds of the recommended varieties/hybrids The PAU wishes to establish close linkages with the seed producers for the large scale production of varieties and hybrids of vegetable crops and their marketing."

VC releases book on plant cells

The Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), DrBaldev Singh Dhillon, released a book titled 'Plant Cells and their Organelles,' which has been edited by Professor William V. Dahsek and Professor Gurbachan Singh Miglani. 

The book has been published by John Wiley and Sons (Wiley Balckwell), United Kingdom, one of the most renowned publishers of the world. 

Professor Miglani is a visiting professor in the School of Agricultural Biotechnology, PAU. After teaching genetics for 35 years, Professor Miglani, retired as a professor from the PAU in 2005. He has authored over a dozen books on molecular genetics, which have been widely accepted by the scientific community in India as well as abroad. 

Death anniversary of Prof Mohan Singh

Speaking at the 39th death anniversary of Professor Mohan Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University said Professor Mohan Singh made a mark in the field of Punjabi literature. 

"Professor Mohan Singh, who was Professor Emeritus at PAU in 1970s, wrote his last book "Boohey" in the University. He along with Dr MS Randhawa, former PAU Vice-Chancellor, was instrumental in the establishment of Punjabi Bhawan. .

Training camp 

A total of 416 farmers and 52 farm women participated in the state-level training camp of PAU Kisan Club, organised in the University on Thursday. Besides, a state level training-cum-workshop was also conducted for the members of Progressive Beekeepers Association (PBKA). In addition, a training camp was organised for PAU Soybean Producers and Processors' Association, in which 60 members participated.
