The paucity of law faculty at Panjab University regional centre has taken a serious turn.
With no solution in sight, law students have written a letter to the Chairperson of Bar Council of India and Chairperson of the Department of Law at Panjab University.
Students have requested them to hire the faculty at the earliest so that their studies don’t suffer.
They said the university was charging hefty annual fee, but failed to provide them with teachers.
Students complained that since January 1, there had been no lecture of four subjects.
They said the authorities of the regional centre have put up a notice stating that lecturers of three subjects (Criminal Law, Company Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution) of 4th semester of LLB were unavailable/ vacant.
However, students said the post of professor for taxation law was also vacant. Students of the first and third year also expressed the same concern.
The regional centre charges sports funds, but has no playground for students’ training.
There is no internet facility, but money is being charged for it by the authorities.
Students said there was inadequate arrangement of drinking water. Besides, there was not enough sitting arrangement in the library.
Several students from across the states are enrolled in MBA and LLB degree programmes run by the university.
But, the regional centre has not offered any hostel facility to students.
Despite repeated attempts, Harmeet Singh Sandhu, director extention library PU regional centre, was not available for comments.
Another official of the department confirmed that the new law lecturers have been recruited.
He said the new faculty would soon start taking classes.
He agreed that there was paucity of space at the regional centre to carry out sports activities.
He said that they were conducting sports activities in playgrounds of a local college.
