Ludhiana, April 25
On the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr Parwinder Pal Singh Sidhu, the district Health Department observed World Malaria Day under the guidance of District Epidemiologist Dr Ramesh here on Wednesday.
An awareness rally was taken out by the department. A mosquitoes eating fish, Gambusia, was released in a pond at Ailiwal village. Villagers were made aware of symptoms and prevention form malaria.
Meanwhile, a quiz competition was organised at the Civil of Hospital Khanna in which Dr Harvinder was the quiz master.
More than 50 students from the Kular College of Nursing participated in the competition. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajinder Gulati, Senior Medical Officer of the Khanna Civil Hospital, said malaria was a health-related problem in several parts of the country.
He said fever, headache, vomiting and flu were the symptoms of malaria. Dr Gulati said malaria parasite infects and destroys red blood cells, resulting in easy fatigue-ability due to anemia, fits or convulsions and loss of consciousness.
