Ludhiana, November 10

Members of the Bharti Kisan Union announced that the union would boycott BJP in all forthcoming elections in the country. They said the party did not fulfil its promises made during the elections.

President, Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said the BJP had stated in its election manifesto that it would implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee. Among other recommendations, the committee had suggested making Minimum Support Price favourable for farmers, he said.

Speaking on the issue of stubble burning, he said the farmers had no choice but to burn stubble as the farmers had not been provided any machinery for merging stubble within the field. They had not even been provided money so that they could afford to hire such machinery, he said.

“We have no intention to burn paddy stubble, but we have no choice, as we have not been given any machinery or money by the Centre or state government as per the directions of the National Green Tribunal," he said. — TNS
