Fazilka beat Ludhiana to clinch softball title

LUDHIANA: Fazilka warded off stiff challenge from hosts Ludhiana before coming out triumphant 6-4 to clinch the title in the boys’ section in the 23rd Junior Punjab Softball Tournament held at Guru Nanak Stadium on Tuesday.

Fazilka warded off stiff challenge from hosts Ludhiana before coming out triumphant 6-4 to clinch the title in the boys’ section in the 23rd Junior Punjab Softball Tournament held at Guru Nanak Stadium on Tuesday.

On Monday, Ludhiana had defeated Fazilka to win the title in the girls’ section.

Dilraj, Shivam, Ashu, Love Kumar, Ravinder and Nikhil Pal scored one run each for the winners to complete the tally, while Ashish, Manav, Ritik and Arjun accounted for one runs each for Ludhiana to reduce the victory margin.

Earlier, in the semi-final, Ludhiana quelled a strong resistence from Mohali before romping home victorious 1-0. The all-important run was scored by Simran.

The second semi-final, played between Fazilka and Amritsar was also a well-fought one in which the former managed to scrape past 3-2.

In the match to decide the third and fourth position, Amritsar edged out Mohali 6-3. Lovedeep, Dilraj, Nikhil Pal, Ravinder, Shivam and Ashu were the run getters for the winners whereas, Ashish, Arjun and Manav chipped in with one run each.

In the league matches, Mohali beat Mansa 10-1; Patiala routed Gurdaspur 10-0; Sangrur drubbed Faridkot 10-0; Ferozepur pipped Moga 1-0; Amritsar blanked Patiala 10-0; Ludhiana defeated Jalandhar 8-2; Mohali outplayed Sangrur 5-0 and Fazilka prevailed over Ferozepur 3-1.

Pran Nath Passi, Secretary, Punjab Softball Association, distributed the prizes. Office-bearers of the association and those from its district unit were present on this occasion.
