City students came out with flying colours in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS. The result was declared today.

Arush Jindal with 660 marks got all-India rank (AIR) of 169. Arush has done his X+II from Alpine International Public School. He wants to take admission in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry.

His father, Sanjay Jindal is a business man and mother Isha a homemaker. Arush attributes his success to his parents. “They are my guiding force, my mentors. They are always there whenever I need help,” he said. Arush aims to become a neurosurgeon.

With 658 marks Anisha Galhotra is placed at 197 in the all-India ranking while in the general category her rank is 128. Anisha did her X+II from Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School. Now, her aim is to get admission in Maulana Azad Medical College. “I want to make radiology my forte like my mother,” said Anisha.

Daughter of the doctor couple, Dr Vineet Galhotra and Dr Ritu Galhotra, Anisha is proud to follow the footsteps of her parents. Anisha is not only good at studies, but also has many feathers to her cap. She is Punjab state badminton champion in girls’ doubles and has represented the city at the Junior National Badminton Championship at Hyderabad. She also represented Ludhiana at Punjab State Swimming Championship in Ropar. Another city student Garvita has got 408 rank while Akashdeep from Sacred Heart Convent School is at the 656 spot in the all-India ranking. 

Remembers alma mater after moving out

Harsh Aggarwal got the 16th AIR. He did his tenth from DAV Public School, BRS Nagar. His family shifted to Kolkata in 2015. Remembering his alma mater he said, “DAV School is the place where my base was made. I thank all teachers and Principal as I have been able to secure this rank only because of the strong foundation, which was laid at the DAV.” His first preference is AIIMS, New Delhi. “I want to make a mark in the field of cardiology,” said Harsh while talking over phone. 

MBBS admissions

NEET was conducted by the CBSE for admission to MBBS course in colleges under the MCI across the country. As many as 11.38 lakh candidates appeared in the national-level entrance exam. Counselling for 15 per cent seats under the all-India quota will be conducted by the CBSE. Notification for the same can be expected latest by next week. In Punjab, counselling for admission to 85 per cent MBBS seats (both government and management quota) will be conducted by Baba Farid University. Notification regarding the same can also be expected latest by next week. There are approximately 60,000 MBBS seats in government and private colleges in the country.
