Ludhiana, June 20

As many as 18 cases of gastroenteritis were reported from Bharti Colony, Geeta Colony and Aman Colony from Ward No. 1 here on Wednesday. No new patient was admitted to the hospital.

As many as 57 cases of gastroenteritis were detected from these areas on Tuesday after which the Health Department and the Municipal Corporation swung into action.

Savitri Devi, an area resident said, “The drinking water supply, which we are getting, is clean. Earlier, the water being supplied to our houses was contained. But after a boy in the area died, the authorities swung into action. The faulty water pipe was also repaired.”

“They should have listened to our complaints and acted earlier because we were getting contaminated water in our houses since the last 15 days,” said added.

A boy living at Bharti Colony died on Monday night. Residents claimed that he died due to gastro, but the Health Department did not confirm the same as the boy’s family took his body from the Civil Hospital before post-mortem examination. So, the exact cause behind his death could not be ascertained. — TNS
