Geospatial award for PRSC director Brijendra Pateriya

Ludhiana: At the 38th Asian Conference of Remote Sensing (ACRS-2017) held in New Delhi on Monday, Dr Brijendra Pateriya, Director, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), Ludhiana, was conferred the prestigious “National geospatial award for excellence-2016” for his rich contribution to the community. He has served the community for over 25 years covering fields of academic and research, industry and government coupled with his  professional dedication to serve the state by promoting and developing geospatial technology in its all spheres to reach out to the masses for its societal usage. The national award consists of a medal, citation and cash prize.  This is a rare achievement for the state of Punjab as in the past three decades, it has been recognised internationally in the field of geospatial technologies. 10-year jail for rapist

Ludhiana: Additional Sessions Judge Jagdeep Kaur Virk  has convicted Anuradh Kumar (27) of Darbhanga district in Bihar on the charge of committing rape. He was sentenced to undergo 10-year rigorous  imprisonment. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on him. The case was registered against the accused on January 22,  2013, on the statement of the victim’s mother. The complainant had stated that the accused was their neighbour in the Dhandari Kalan area. He made her daughter drink juice laced with some sedative. When she fell unconscious, he raped her. OC

Cloth trader robbed

Ludhiana: A cloth trader from Jammu was robbed of the clothes he bought from here. Mohammad Ishaad from Poonch in Jammu told the police that he bought winter clothes from Mochpura market. He said he went a few steps away to inquire if any bus would go to Jammu and within no time, two scooter-borne youths came and sped away with his clothes. Ishaad raised an alarm and called the police. Probe is on. 

Chain snatched 

A snatching was reported near Atam Nagar area. Ranjna Mahipal of New Kartar Nagar told the police that she was near Saini Public School, when two scooter-borne youths snatched her gold chain. The police have registered a case against unidentified persons. TNS 

40-kg ganja seized

Khanna: The Doraha police claimed to have arrested three car-borne persons and recovered 40-kg ganja from them. Those arrested have been identified as Ashish Kumar, Vikas Kumar and Sat Narayan, all residents of Bihar. SSP Khanna NS Mahal said a police party laid a naka near Doraha Rest House. At 1 pm, the police signalled an Indica car coming from Khanna side to stop. During search, the police recovered 40-kg ganja from them. A case was registered and the accused would be presented in court for further investigation. OC
