Now, overhead water tanks to be tinted with graffiti

LUDHIANA: Giving a major boost to the ongoing beautification drive in the city, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will now get the overhead water tanks painted through private firms.

Giving a major boost to the ongoing beautification drive in the city, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will now get the overhead water tanks painted through private firms.

Designs have also been finalised in this regard. The work is expected to begin from Friday onwards.

Also, the graffiti work has also been completed in Sherpur Chowk and the department is going to organise a beautification drive on Sunday with public participation.

The water tanks located in Cheema Chowk, Dholewal Chowk, Gill Chowk, Shashtri Nagar Railway Crossing, Sarabha Nagar main market, near Veer Palace and Chawni Mohalla (Manna Singh Nagar) would be painted in the first phase and the work has been allotted to Ludhiana Beverages Limited and Smag Retails Private Limited.

Meanwhile, the MC has allotted the work of development and maintenance of the fountains/ islands near Rakh Bagh and under Samrala Chowk to two private firms. The Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) has approved the allotment of work in anticipation.

The fountain-cum-island located opposite Rakh Bagh near MC Commissioner Camp office has been allotted to Bector’ Food Specialties Limited for five years on BOT basis. After the beautification drive at the under bridge of Samrala Chowk now the work to maintain greenery in the islands has been allotted to Ritesh Properties and Industries Limited.

Prior to this, the department had allocated Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk, Jalandhar Bypass, Island opposite Verka Milk Plant, Island opposite K Mall adjoining the bus stand flyover and Aarti Chowk to the private firms.

MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said the beautification of the city would always remain a priority and they would keep involving public in their efforts to make Ludhiana a beautiful city.
