Green Land Blasters beat Super Kings XI to lift trophy

Thanks to a hurricane innings of 81 runs by Jaish Jain and an equally valuable contribution of 34 runs by Harsharan helped Green Land Blasters beat IPS Super Kings XI by eight runs and emerge champions in the IPS Cricket League organised at International Public School ground here yesterday.

Four teams — IPS Super Kings XI, Sahnewal Lions, Ludhiana Warriors and Green Land Blasters — took part in the league. Each side played matches of 25 overs each during the league.

IPS Super Kings XI and Green Land Blasters performed well in their respective matches and reached the final. In the final, Green Land Blasters won the toss and opted to bat first. In the stipulated 25 overs, they scored 180 runs at the loss of six wickets.

Their innings revolved around Jaish Jain, who hammerd 81 runs off 51 balls, and Harsharan, who cracked 34 runs in 16 deliveries.

For the IPS Super Kings XI, Sanyam was the pick of bowlers. He bowled five overs, conceded 22 runs and grabbed two wickets.

Chasing the target, the IPS Super Kings XI were cruising well and appeared to make the required runs, but Manjot and Jaish of Green Land Blasters bowled accurate spell and the former’s reply culminated at 172 runs with eight balls to spare.

The highlight of their innings was 51 runs by Rhythm, who made 51 off 47 balls, besides 23 runs off 30 balls by Sanyam.

For the winners, Manjot got rid of three batsmen in five overs after giving away 21 runs while Jaish Jain scalped two wickets for 39 runs in his quota of five overs.

Jaish Jain, who played stellar role in his side victory, was named the man of the match.

Joy of Sahnewal Lions was declared the man of the tournament while Baswar Sharma of Ludhiana Warriors was adjudged the best batsman and Bavik Gaba of the IPS Super Kings XI was named the best bowler. Shivashu Khanna and Takshan Tagri were adjudged the best wicket-keeper and the best fielder, respectively.

Gurpreet Gogi, president of the District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (Urban), gave away prizes to the winners. Baljinder Sandhu, director, International Public School, along with former IPL star, Loveablish, former Punjab Ranji player, Arun Passi, Pawan Pandey and Inderjit Singh were among others present at the prize distribution function.
