Haryana players had a great day as they wrapped up their matches in the boys as well as girls’ section in the 6th Sub-Junior National Fistball and Senior All-India Throwball Championship being held at International Public School, Sandhu Nagar, here on Saturday.
Teams (boys and girls) from over dozen states are taking part in this four-day championship being organised by the Punjab Fistball and Throwball Association.
In boys’ section, Haryana proved too good for hosts Punjab, whom they drubbed 11-4 and then got the better of Uttar Pradesh 11-7 to advance into the next round.
In the girls’ group, Haryana warded of stiff challenge from hosts Punjab before coming out victorious 11-8.
In other matches in boys’ section, Delhi outclassed Kerala 11-9; Rajasthan beat Chandigarh 11-8; Telengana outnumbered Himachal Pradesh 11-8; Delhi pipped Jammu and Kashmir 11-8; Kerala defeated Jammu and Kashmir 11-6; Tamil Nadu outperformed Rajasthan 11-9 and Tamil Nadu beat Chandigarh 11-9. In the girls’ section, Tamil Nadu outplayed Rajasthan 11-7; Kerala beat Delhi 11-7; Telengana defeated Himachal Pradesh 11-7 and Tamil Nadu overwhelmed Chandigarh 11-0.
Dharamvir Singh, president of the Punjab Fistball Association, Sanjay Sharma, Prem Singh and Amit Sharma were among others present to encourage the players. — OC
