Ludhiana, July 22

Two persons, including a 5-year-old boy, died in separate road mishaps in the city on Saturday.

In the first incident, Mohan (47) of Gurdev Nagar died after a Punjab Roadways bus hit him near Mangli village on the Chandigarh Road.

Sources said the incident occurred at 8 am, when the deceased was heading towards the factory where he worked on his motorcycle. When he reached Mangli village a rashly-driven Punjab Roadways bus rammed into his bike killing him on the spot.

The bus driver, however, managed to flee from the spot. The kin of the deceased held a protest and blocked the Chandigarh Road for around an hour.

They lifted the dharna only after the police registered a case against the bus driver under Section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and assured them that the driver would be arrested soon. The police had to divert traffic due to the protest.
