Ludhiana, June 23
Olympic Day was observed by Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy, an affiliated unit of the apex hockey body, Hockey India, at Jarkhar village, 20 km from here, on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road.
Four teams comprising of budding and talented hockey players (junior), drawn from nearby villages, were formed, who took part in the exhibition matches to celebrate the day.
Addressing the players, Jagroop Singh Jarkhar, Director of the academy, dwelt in detail the importance of Olympic Games. He said these games were not only sport events, but means of brotherhood and unity.
“If you wanted to make a mark in the field of sports at international level, you should concentrate to be a part of these games. Olympic Games taught us sportsmanship, discipline and encouraged to excel,” he said.
In the matches played on this occasion, Jarkhar Academy beat Olympian Prithipal Singh XI 4-1 and Surjit Hockey XI defeated Ghwaddi School 3-1.
Paramjit Singh Neetu and advocate Harkamal Singh, organiser and president, respectively, of the Jarkhar Hockey Academy, besides Shingara Singh Jarkhar, coach Pargat Singh, Ravinder Singh Kala (Ghawaddi), Sandeep Singh Pandher, Mandeep Singh, Yadwinder Singh Toor, Tejinder Singh, Soma Singh Romi, Ranjit Singh DeolLuvdeep Singh, Ajaypal Singh and Gurjit Singh Gajju, members of the hockey academy organising committee also attended the celebrations.
