Ludhiana, August 18
Members of the Shri Hindu Takht will begin a hunger strike on August 25 outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal. Varun Mehta, state head of the Takht, told the media that the fashion show organised by the Sutlej Club authorities had brought disrepute and hurt the religious sentiments. He said according to the Supreme Court directions, first an FIR should be registered and then investigations should be initiated. He said the police was just recording the statements of club office-bearers and no action had been taken.
“The office-bearers should take the responsibility. Tomorrow they can invite poll dancers or strip teasers on the club premises and shun off the responsibility for it. They have to be accountable. We will not withdraw the complaint till the matter is gets a desirable conclusion,” said Mehta. Takht members are irked over ‘Mahakumbh’, a fashion show held at club premises recently, where sadhus were called and models wore clothes depicting Hindu gods/goddesses. —TNS
