The Machhiwara police have claimed to have solved the murder of a missing woman of Burj Kacha village with the arrest of five members of her family, including her husband and son.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ajmer Singh, husband of the woman, and Pushpinder Singh, her son, and three others, identified as Himat Singh, Jaswant Singh, both brothers-in-law, and Bikar Singh, the woman’s nephew. However, the body of Balwinder Kaur, which was thrown into Sirhind Canal, is yet to be recovered.

Addressing a press conference, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)-Khanna, NS Mahal, stated that the family of Balwinder Kaur (45) doubted her character and they murdered her and threw the body into Sirhind Canal near Powat village. The deceased’s husband had lodged a missing complaint with the Machhiwara police. Later, Amarjit Singh, Balwinder’s cousin from Taprian village, informed the police that she might have been murdered by her family members as they doubted her character.

Following this information, the police questioned the family members, who confessed to murdering Balwinder and throwing her body into the canal, as her activities were giving a bad name to the family, the SSP said, adding that the police were trying to recover the body.

The Superintendent of Police (I)-Khanna, Jasvir Singh, station house officer of Samrala Bhupinder Singh and other officials concerned from the Khanna Police were present at the press conference.
