Importance of road safety stressed

JAGRAON: On the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a seminar on road safety was organised at the Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Sidhwan Khurd, today.

On the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a seminar on road safety was organised at the Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Sidhwan Khurd, today. It was organised by the Traffic Police Department in collaboration with the NSS Units of the college.

The seminar was attended by the principals, staff, students, drivers, conductors and parents of pupils of various educational institutes run by the Sidhwan Education Trust, including KCW Sidhwan Khurd, GHG Public Senior Secondary School and Sikh Girls High School, Sidhwan Khurd.

ASI Sukhdev Singh, Traffic Cell In-charge, delivered a lecture on traffic rules. He said the increasing number of vehicles had led to more convenience, but it had also endangered more lives. “As per the UNO report, over 10 lakh people lose their lives annually in road accidents. Knowledge about traffic rules is necessary to save young lives,” he said.

He also discussed the causes of accidents, precautions that should be taken and the attitudinal changes required to consider road safety measures seriously. Gurdeep Singh, Transport In-charge, Sidhwan Group of Institutions, quoted examples from his daily experience to stress the need of road safety. Khalsa College for Women Principal Paramjit Kaur asked the students to avoid carelessness while driving so that precious lives could be saved.
