Students of many city-based schools enjoyed Lohri celebrations on their respective premises on Saturday. Schools distributed traditional sweets such as gachhak, til bhugga, rewris and groundnuts. Students danced around bonfires to enjoy the festival.

GMT Public School, Jalandhar bypass

The school celebrated festival. Students from primary wing participated in dance presentations. Principal Charanpreet Kaur emphasised the importance of Punjabi culture and its moral richness. The bonfire was ignited and the holy song of Lohri was sung by the students and staff.

Ram Lal Bhasin Public School

The Dugri-based school enjoyed Lohri with great enthusiasm. A special arrangement of bonfire was made in which all teachers and students sat together and enjoyed by singing and dancing. Children relished traditional food such as ground nuts, rewaris and gachaks. The function concluded with giddha and bhangra.

Shamrock Christian Senior Secondary School, Hambran Road

Lohri was celebrated with a great pomp and show on the school premises. The whole school was embellished with colorful kites, balloons and buntings made by the tiny tots. A replica of a Punjabi village was created in the primary block. The tiny tots were dressed in the Punjabi attire. Principal P Singh lit the bonfire and kids danced on Dhol beats.

Atam Devki Niketan, Kidwai Nagar

The school celebrated Lohri with a cultural programme on Friday. The programme began with a song ‘Sundar – Mundariye’. Boys performed bhangra. All kindergarten kids were dressed in Punjabi attire. Students were distributed nuts, rewari and popcorns in the end.

Gupta Model High School

The school celebrated Lohri on the school premises. Students dressed in traditional Punjabi attires sang songs and danced around the bonfire. Students offered ground nuts, rewari and gachhak.

BCM School, Sector-32

Lohri was celebrated with glee at the school. Lohri songs, poem and speeches were sung by the students. The famous folklore, ‘Sunder Munderiye’ was sung with joviality. Traditional winter foods such as Sarson ka saag makki ki roti, til, rorhi were relished by the students. The students had a gala time as they danced around the bonfire and offered their prayers for the prosperity of the nation. The students were attired in the traditional dresses and were totally absorbed in the festive spirit.

BCM Basant City

Students celebrated Lohri with exuberance and fanfare on the school premises. The students and teachers sang songs immersed in the rich cultural folklore of Punjab. Students and teachers worshipped the bonfire. Groundnuts and sweets were also distributed among the students.
