Jagvir, Gurmukh star in Satluj Academy’s win

LUDHIANA: Fine bowling by Gurmukh Singh (5 for 51) and an equally valuable contribution with the bat by Jagvir Singh (97 not out) anchored Satluj Cricket Academy to script an easy win by five wickets over Spartan Cricket Club in a cricket match played at the Satguru Ram Singh Government Polytechnic College ground, Rishi Nagar, here today.

Fine bowling by Gurmukh Singh (5 for 51) and an equally valuable contribution with the bat by Jagvir Singh (97 not out) anchored Satluj Cricket Academy to script an easy win by five wickets over Spartan Cricket Club in a cricket match played at the Satguru Ram Singh Government Polytechnic College ground, Rishi Nagar, here today.

Spartan Club won the toss and opted to bat first. In the stipulated 25 overs, they posted 205 runs after losing nine wickets.

The highlight of their innings was useful contribution with the bat by Gurpreet Sund, Maninder Singh and Tajinder Singh, who scored 78, 47 and 46 runs, respectively. For Satluj Academy, Gurmukh Singh was the pick of bowlers, chipping in with five wickets for 51 runs in his quota of five overs. Tript Saini accounted for two wickets for 47 runs in as many overs, while Yuvraj Singh captured one wicket for 63 runs.

The target turned out to be a meagre one as Satluj Academy made the required runs after losing five wickets with four balls to spare.

Their innings revolved around Jagvir Singh and Pratham Manjul as the duo remained unconquered on 97 and 51 runs, respectively. Jagvir faced 53 balls and hit eight boundaries and five sixes, whereas Pratham consumed 48 balls and smashed two sixes and six hits over the ropes. Inderjeet Singh made 28 runs off 17 balls with the help of three boundaries.

For the losers, Gurjeet Singh grabbed two wickets for 63 runs, while Harman Singh claimed two wickets after giving away 51 runs and Deepak Kumar scalped one victim for 57 runs. Jagvir Singh, for his fine batting display, was declared the man of the match.
