The Member of Parliament (MP) from Jalandhar, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, visited Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday to inquire about health of Yashwant Kumar, who was injured during violence in Phagwara last week.

The MP and senior Congress leader Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary met family members of the injured youth on the behalf of the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, and assured full support of the Punjab Government.

He said if Yashwant’s family was not satisfied with the treatment offered at the DMCH then he could be airlifted to another prominent hospital of the country. The victim’s family members expressed satisfaction over the treatment being offered to him and thanked the Punjab government for the help.

Speaking to the Tribune over phone, Chaudhary asserted that the Punjab government was committed to maintaining law and order in the state. No one would be allowed to disturb social harmony in Punjab, he added.

“I was sent by the CM to offer moral support to the victim’s family. I met each member of his family, who expressed complete satisfaction over treatment being given to him,” he said.

The Phillaur Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Youth Congress leader Yogesh Handa and others were also present on the occasion. For precautionary purpose, forces have been deployed around the DMCH to keep law and order under control.
