Ludhiana, December 6
Ludhiana and Amritsar came out victorious and booked their berths in the semi-finals (boys’ U-19) in handball on the third day of the 63rd Punjab Schools Inter-District Games-2017 being held here today.
Competition in two disciplines, handball and carrom are being organized by the Punjab Education Department at the PAU ground and BVM, Kithclu Nagar.
In the two quarterfinals, played at the Punjab Agricultural University campus ground, Ludhiana and Amritsar scripted easy victories to advance into the last four stages. Ludhiana boys defeated Patiala lads 38-21 to emerge first entrant into the semi-final, while Amritsar thrashed Moga 24-6 to join the hosts in the last four.
Meanwhile, competition in the girls’ section in carrom began at BVM Senior Secondary School, Kitchlu Nagar branch.
In the U-14 section, Muktsar defeated Ludhiana and Faridkot defeated Fazilka, whereas in the U-17 category, Muktsar outplayed Ludhiana and Sangrur outplayed Fazilka. In the U-19 group, Ludhiana outnumbered Moga and Faridkot pipped Sangrur to move ahead. Principal Gurjant Singh was the chief guest. Bikramjit Bhanot, AEO, Ludhiana, besides Gurbakhshish Singh, Rachhpal Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Dalwinder Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Rup Singh, Deepak Kumar, Jagvir Singh, Sarbjit Kaur, Balwinder Kaur and Simarjit Kaur were among others present on the occasion.
