The Khanna police claimed to have arrested a person near Doraha with 1-kg heroin worth around Rs 5 crore.
The accused has been identified as Sanjay Kumar of Jalandhar. Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal told the media that a police party, led by SP(I) RPS Sandhu, Station House Officer Doraha Manjit Singh and Payal Deputy Superintendent of Police, had laid a naka near Doraha last evening when a private bus was stopped and the police noticed a person, with a black bag in his hand disembarking from the bus.
During search, the police seized 1-kg heroin from his possession and the accused failed to present any license in this regard.
The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the accused.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said Sanjay Kumar had brought the contraband from Delhi and was going to sell it in Jalandhar. The SSP said two high-tech nakas have been installed at Doraha and Neelon on the directions of the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) and Jalandhar range IG. The Senior Superintendent of Police said an inspector-rank police official is in-charge of these nakas.
